FIRST HOLY COMMUNION AND RECONCILIATION

The receiving of Jesus Christ in The Holy Eucharist (Jesus’ Body and Blood – Holy Communion) on a Sunday at Mass is the weekly high point of many Catholics’ spiritual life. This encounter with the Risen Lord often begins with children receiving their First Holy Communion when they are at school.

First Holy Communion and Reconciliation are the next Sacraments that many young Catholics encounter and receive after baptism.

Criteria for First Holy Communion and Reconciliation

Children must be baptised Catholics and live in the parish

Children must be in School Year 4 or above

Process

There are usually combined sessions at school and at church for the children and parents to attend – usually 8 sessions on a monthly basis.

Each session is followed by a liturgy to be offered by the children at Sunday Mass.
