RE-OPENING OF ST ANTHONY OF PADUA CHURCH

After months of lockdown, I am delighted to welcome you back to St Anthony’s as we are now able to reopen for public Mass.

St Anthony of Padua will be open for 11am Mass on Sunday 26th July.  In order that we keep everyone safe, we will need to respect social distancing rules and therefore we will only be allowed to have approximately 50 people in church.  You can book your place at this Sunday’s Mass by phoning St Anthony’s between 10am and 1pm on Thursday or Friday prior to the Sunday you are booking for.  Places will be offered on a first come first served basis.  The telephone number is 0191 262 3817.  You do not need to book for weekday Masses.

The Bishops of England and Wales are continuing to suspend our Sunday obligation and therefore we can attend weekday Mass if the Sunday Mass is already full to capacity.

People have worked extremely hard to get the church open and I would ask you to understand that we will all have to be patient and very vigilant when we come back to church.  On arrival we will have to be prepared to be guided by stewards.  Using hand sanitiser on arrival and then being guided to our seats will be something we will all have to accept so if you don’t get to sit in your usual seat, please accept this.  The stewards will simply be doing as they have been asked and following the rules that have been put in place to keep us all safe so please be as patient as possible.  Once in your places I will explain some of the changes when I begin the Mass.  I’m looking forward to seeing people come back but please remember, if you are shielding please continue to do so and stay at home until it is safe for you to return.  You will still be able to watch Mass online on the Parish YouTube channel.

Fr David Smith.

Coronavirus Update – 23rd March

As of tonight, Monday 23rd March 2020, we are now unable to open our church.  It is sad that we are no longer able to keep our church open for private prayer but we have to support our NHS.

We can pray in our homes and that is something I encourage you to do.  Please pray for all affected by Covid19 and for all NHS staff.

Father David Smith

OFFERTORY DONATIONS TO OUR CHURCH

There have been parishioners who have asked about continuing with their weekly offerings during the Covid-19 crisis and Church closure.  We are advised by the Diocese as follows:

Keep your Weekly Offering or Gift Aid donations in your envelopes at home please, until this crisis is ended.

To set up a regular STANDING ORDER or to just make a one off donation please print off and complete a ‘Standing Order Mandate Form’ from this website and forward this to your Bank.

If you have personal ONLINE BANKING you will be able to set this up yourself, you will just need the following information. (Please also be assured that all bank payments are accounted for in Parish Audit Trails.) Account Name: Ss Anthony of Padua & Francis, HSBC – Sort Code: 40.34.45 and Account No. 61165089

‘GIFT AID’ for the first time and are a UK Taxpayer, you will need to download a ‘Gift Aid Form’ from this website and pass this to the Parish Office. Once everything is back to normal, because this is a legal document required by HMRC, the Office is required to forward it the Diocese. Please be assured that in completing this form means that the Parish will receive a small percentage back from HMRC and it will NOT affect your own personal tax in any way.

THE GOD WHO SPEAKS – A YEAR OF THE WORD

The Bishops of England and Wales have called for a Year of the Word under the title, ‘The God Who Speaks ’.

God has spoken to human beings since the dawn of creation, but very few have listened as intently as they might!

This Year will offer a wealth of ideas, resources and experiences for us to deepen (or create) our relationship with the God

who speaks to us through the Bible.
